This is one of the most elegant versions of 'Wild Card' ever to grace
the fingers of an artist. So many versions of this type of routine have
been published that it is certainly brazen to call this one "The
Ultimate!" Brazen or not - this routine is the ultimate performance
piece of the Wild Card notion!
This effect started with Hofzinser's "Everywhere and Nowhere" some
one hundred and fifty years ago. The theme lay dormant until Bro.
Hamman published "The Mystic Nines" in 1959. Shortly thereafter
Peter Kane published "Watch the Ace" which retained the Hamman
Count introduced in the "The Mystic Nines" and added the use of
double face cards. Almost days after Kane's publication in 1962,
Frank Garcia opened the flood gate on a very commercial revision of
Kane's version named "Wild Card". The overwhelming success of
Garcia's version has dubbed every notion along these lines as a
"Wild Card" theme.
"Fanatabulous" the second part of "Wild All The Way" was marketed
by Gene DeVoe in the early 60's and has been popular on and off for
years. The effect has been re-introduced under many names by
unscrupulous magic dealers without credit to Bro Hamman or rights
from Devoe.
''Ace-Sational'' the introductory segment to "Wild All the Way" is a
revision of Bro. Hamman's publication in The Pallbearer Review in
1962. The origin of the effect is based on Chick Schoke's "Hippity
Hop Aces" which appeared in Tarbell's Course in Magic.
"WILD ALL THE WAY" is actually three effects; "ACE-SATIONAL",
"FANTABULOUS" and "WILD CARD". Bro. Hamman has taken
these three effects and blended them into an unsurpassed Wild Card
Routine. In performance these effects are presented sequentially.
ACE-SATIONAL
THE EFFECT: The four nines are paired back to back. A pair in each
of the performer's hands. Red cards are on the inside, black cards on
the outside. On command the position of the cards CHANGE. The
red cards are now on the outside and the black on the inside. This
change is repeated. When the cards are dropped to the table they
have transformed to the Queens!
'FANTABALOUS ( A VERSION)
THE EFFECT: Four Queens from the deck are dealt face down
below the just transformed Queens. When the cards are turned over
they prove to be the missing Nines!
WILD CARD - PHASE 1
THE EFFECT: The recently transformed Queens change to Nines!
WILD CARD - PHASE 2
THE EFFECT: The Nines are collected, then as an after thought re-
dealt. A King is introduced as a Wild Card with special properties.
