Slydini's Knotted Silks (L&L Publishing).....$40.00

Learn a classic of magic from two masters past and present.

When asked to name his favorite trick from the many classic routines
he created, Slydini would always say "The silks."

"The silks" now known throughout the magic world as Slydini's
Knotted Silks is a masterpiece of magic. The silks don't change color
or transform into birds but they do something just as mysterious.
They magically untie themselves. Even under increasingly impossible
conditions, even when the spectators tie the silks together
themselves, they still melt apart. Yet this simple plot has been used to
entertain audiences all over the world by magicians who went through
the trouble of learning Slydini's routine and harnessing all of its
entertainment potential.

Now, for the first time, everything you need to add this classic to your
own act is in one place. First, there is instruction from the master
himself as Slydini guides you through the routine step by step in the
original meticulously written and photo-illustrated manuscript.

Then, pop the DVD into your player to watch Bill Malone, one of the
world's greatest magicians working today perform "Test of Strength",
his handling of Slydini's classic routine, for on obviously baffled and
entertained audience. Then get ready to learn as Bill teaches his
routine in minute detail complete with all of his own handling nuances.
The combination of the written word and the visual medium of video
have, perhaps, never been used to greater effect.

Finally there are the props, two silks of the exacting requirements for
the routine, enabling you to have the right materials to begin the
learning process immediately.

The mystery and entertainment of the Slydini's Knotted Silks is now
within your grasp. The only thing missing from the equation, and a
new generation of enchanted audiences, is you!

When Slydini is performing it is obvious that he enjoys his work.

Every effect he produces gives him pleasure and that pleasure is
automatically transmitted to his audience. However, if one had to
choose the trick which gives Slydini the most personal satisfaction to
perform, then undoubtedly it would be his "Knotted Silks." With this
trick he has not only entertained and mystified audiences in all parts
of the world, but in addition he has baffled the best brains in magic.

Here we have the ingredients of a magical classic because the plot is
so simple and easily remembered. Two silks are unmistakably tightly
tied together and there can be no question that the tie is other than
genuine. Everything is done under test conditions, with a spectator's
eyes glued a few inches from the performer's hands, yet the knot
becomes untied as if by magic. The mystery deepens as the routine
progresses because each time the silks are tied the conditions
become more severe. It seems quite impossible for two silks to glide
apart after being tied with as many knots as a spectator wishes to tie;
who does everything to ensure that the knots are pulled as tight as his
strength will permit, but without any move on the part of the performer,
the silks just separate! When the silks are tied a third time with a type
of knot which everyone knows cannot come undone by any other
means than being untied in the normal way, logic demands that the
silks must stay firmly together, yet a second later the unbelievable has
happened and the two silks are separated. For a climax the silks are
tied once more, this time the knot remains but splits down the centre,
to allow the silks to part!

In Slydini's performances and lecture demonstrations, he usually
features his "Knotted Silks;" it was especially advertised in his highly
successful lecture at Carnegie Hall. In addition, students of magic
have come from all parts of America to Slydini's Studio in New York
to learn the secret of this trick.
