A great little pocket trick which is easy to do and is ready for
performance at any time.
Three playing cards are shown. Each card has a hole punched at
one of its ends. Let's assume there are two red cards and one
black card. Please note that sets may vary, and you may receive
two black cards and a red, but the working remains the same.
The odd card (in this case, the black card) is placed between the
other two, and around them is placed an elastic band. A length of
woolen cord or yarn is handed to a spectator, who is asked to
thread this through the holes in the ends of the cards which the
magician holds. The cord is pulled back and forwards through the
holes, showing that it is genuinely threaded through. Now the ends
of the cord are tied together, forming a loop, and making escape of
any of the cards impossible.
The magician asks the spectator which color they would like - red or
black, and immediately proceeds to pull the center card right off
from the cord. The card is still intact (the hole is not torn) and the
ends of the cord are still tied.
