The deck is riffle shuffled by the performer and cut by a spectator and
then fanned or ribbon spread face down. While the performer turns his
back a spectator removes any card, looks at it, and places it out of
sight. The performer takes the deck and thumbs through the cards face
up. When half way through the deck he explains that the only way to
know which is the selected card is to memorize the entire deck and see
which card is missing. After thumbing through the deck the performer
