A deck of regular playing cards (which can be borrowed) and a
blank faced strip of cardboard are introduced. The cards are
shuffled and then the front end of the pack is riffled as the magician
asks the spectator to push the blank faced cardboard strip into the
deck at any point they desire. Wherever the cardboard strip is
inserted into the pack, the playing cards that are above and below
the cardboard strip are the two cards that are used as the
selections, and they are removed from the pack and placed face
down on the table.
Now the performer has the spectator look at the back side of the
cardboard strip and they find a picture of a scroll with Chinese
writing on it. Looking at the writing it is impossible to tell what it
says, but the performer states that by taking one of the selected
cards and holding it part way over the Chinese writing a legible
message in English will appear. This is done and to the surprise of
the spectator, the English words spell out the first selected card!
This is repeated with the second selected card with equal success!
